Interpolation of airborne LiDAR data for archaeology

نویسندگان

چکیده

The use of topographic airborne LiDAR data has become an essential part archaeological prospection, and the need for archaeology-specific processing workflow is well established. However, interpolation, important step in which digital elevation model derived from classified point cloud, received little attention archaeologists. This a direct impact on accuracy visual performance model, but remains challenge despite numerous studies. Most studies have compared different interpolators (with conflicting results), very few compare performance. Also, there are no article addresses this problem by providing assessment six most commonly used interpolators. was tested at four European test sites with innovative triangular method. Kriging best interpolator undersampled areas, inverse distance weighting distant second. In other triangulation linear interpolation marginally better than kriging. when availability computational costs also taken into account, currently suitable interpolator. addition, we propose hybrid that combines strengths (QGIS plug-in). All results to be considered European-data specific.

Forest Delineation Based on Airborne LIDAR Data

The delineation of forested areas is a critical task, because the resulting maps are a fundamental input for a broad field of applications and users. Different national and international forest definitions are available for manual or automatic delineation, but unfortunately most definitions lack precise geometrical descriptions for the different criteria. A mandatory criterion in forest definit...

Dem Generation from Airborne Lidar Data

Airborne Lidar (light detection and ranging) sensors provide dense height information of large areas in an efficient manner. But for the production of digital elevation model (DEM) from the point cloud, the filtering of the point cloud should be carried out in order to remove points representing surface of non-ground objects. According to the deficiencies of slope based method, a novel filterin...
